One Surveyor, Start to Finish
Duryea assigns a single surveyor as your point of contact from proposal through closing, covering both the fieldwork and the mapping. On an ALTA that is a substantive commitment rather than a service promise: the person who walked the boundary is the person who answers the title company’s questions about what they found, which removes the most common source of delay when a Schedule B exception turns out to be ambiguous.
It is a small firm with in-house staff, which is the trade-off to weigh — dedicated attention against the surge capacity a large firm can bring to a compressed closing calendar.
Licensed Surveyors on Staff
The firm has operated since 1993 and its named surveyors carry licences across the Western US, several with credentials that matter for specific parcel types:
- Mason Marker, PLS — surveying since 1995, licensed in Washington and Oregon, and both a Certified Water Rights Examiner in Oregon and a Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS). CFedS matters where a parcel adjoins federal land, and Oregon water-rights certification matters wherever irrigation or riparian rights attach to the title.
- Jim Duryea — licensed in Washington and Montana, and past president of the Inland Empire Chapter of the Land Surveyors of Washington.
- Blake — holds Idaho, Washington and Oregon PLS licences.
A note on coverage: the firm’s own site states its licensed footprint in two places and the two lists differ — one names California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana; the other adds Arizona and Colorado. Confirm licensure for your specific state at quote stage, since an ALTA survey must be sealed by someone licensed where the property sits.
