Richard Johanson is a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Utah and Colorado with over 25 years of experience, and the firm states a licensed professional is on site for the duration of every survey and consulting engagement.
On a small firm that is the substantive difference. A great deal of ALTA fieldwork is delegated to technicians and reviewed afterwards; having the licensee present while the evidence is collected is what shortens the loop when a boundary conflict shows up in the field rather than in the office.
Unusual Scope
The stated experience covers boundaries, subdivisions, topographic, cadastral surveying, site planning, as-builts, ALTA, condominiums, PUDs, rights of way, mining claims and construction surveying — with specific depth in large ALTA/ACSM projects, condominium conversions, cadastral retracements, and mountainous and forest surveys conducted on horseback.
The last is not a flourish. Retracing cadastral boundaries across Utah backcountry where vehicles cannot reach is a genuine speciality, and mining claims are among the most difficult boundary work in the Mountain West — the records are old, the monuments are often gone, and the retracement standard is unforgiving.
